Arsenal are considering a transfer for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo this summer and the deal is ‘one to watch’ according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Mikel Arteta is in the midst of strengthening his side ahead of the 2022-23 season and could yet make further additions before transfer deadline day on September 1.

What is the latest transfer news from Arsenal?

It has been a busy summer for the Gunners so far with five new players moving to the Emirates for a combined fee of just under £120 million.

Arsenal have moved early to secure their top targets but there could still be deals to be struck this summer after their failed bid for Leeds United’s Raphinha hinted at a desire to add another forward to the squad.

The Brazilian has since moved to Barcelona, leaving the north Londoners another option short in the transfer market but rumours continue to surface regarding potential targets.

Gakpo was linked with a move to the Emirates at the start of the summer and reports have re-emerged in recent weeks suggesting Arsenal remain interested in the winger.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSV would demand around £37 million for the signature of Gakpo this summer.

What has Jacobs said on a potential move for Gakpo this summer?

Jacobs understands that, as things stand, nothing is advanced between the two clubs regarding a move for Gakpo.

Nevertheless, the CBS journalist has described the deal as one that could progress as the days tick by, with the 23-year-old not hiding his desire to play in the Premier League someday.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “Gakpo is an interesting one. It's one to watch. Arsenal haven't got anything advanced at this point, but he has openly said that he would like to move to the Premier League.

“He's also spoken about his admiration for Thierry Henry and I think that got Arsenal fans pretty excited. But he also said he admired Virgil Van Dijk. So the interest is there. But there's nothing advanced at the time of speaking.”

Why would Arsenal target Gakpo?

While Gakpo has predominantly been deployed as a left-winger throughout his career, he has also shown he is adept across the front line, something that will likely appeal to Arteta with the rigours of European football returning to the club.

He also boasts an impressive eye for goal. Last season saw the 7-cap Netherlands international find the back of the net 21 times for PSV in all competitions, also providing 15 assists.

Despite his young age, Gakpo was also regularly entrusted with the captain’s armband, showing the potential he has to be a leader at the Emirates if he were to sign.
