Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is set to join Fulham this summer in what has been a frustrating deal to negotiate, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Mikel Arteta has been busy this summer putting plans in place for the 2022-23 campaign and it appears he will soon have his first big-name departure to contend with.

What is the latest on Leno’s situation?

The German shot-stopper admitted that it was frustrating to see Aaron Ramsdale take his place in the Arsenal starting line-up last season and a transfer away has appeared likely in the months since.

Matt Turner has been signed from New England Revolution this summer to provide further competition to Ramsdale and it now appears the American could become the Gunners’ number two.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has reported that Fulham have an agreement in place with Arsenal for an £8 million transfer of Leno this summer - a £14 million loss on the fee paid to Bayer Leverkusen - after with the 30-year-old set for a medical at Craven Cottage.

It is a deal that Fulham have been pushing for a while now, according to Jones, and it has caused plenty of frustration.

What has Jones said about Leno’s imminent move?

The transfer insider has relayed that those close to the deal have been frustrated by the process of the transfer with Fulham in desperate need of reinforcements following their promotion.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “They've been trying to do this for weeks now, Fulham. I’ve spoken to some people close to the deal who said it has been very frustrating. Goalkeepers and centre-backs are two areas that they need to fix as a priority and they've been looking to the Premier League for those solutions.”

Will Leno be missed at the Emirates?

Leno has been part of the Arsenal set-up for four years now after signing in 2018. In the time since he made 125 appearances for the north Londoners, keeping 37 clean sheets.

But it is unlikely that his departure will have much impact on Arsenal. Ramsdale has firmly asserted himself as the club’s number one and with Turner likely to be on a significantly lower wage than the £100,000 per week Leno was claiming, it is a move that benefits all parties.

The one concern may be that Arteta now lacks an experienced shot-stopper with Ramsdale still 24 years old and Turner having never played in Europe before.
