The new Premier League season is rapidly approaching as Liverpool and Manchester City prepare to battle it out for domestic honours once again.

After a title race that came down to the final ten minutes last time out and, ultimately, was decided by just a single point, the pair will be raring to go again.

Both have spent big in the transfer market with City securing the services of Erling Haaland and Liverpool coughing up a record fee for Darwin Nunez.

In Haaland, City may have landed one of the bargains of the century, parting company with just £51 million to trigger his release clause.

That figure, of course, could increase once you take account of agent fees and add ons but even still, snapping up one of the hottest prospects in the game for any less than £100 million represents a steal.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have taken a gamble on Nunez after he impressed Jurgen Klopp while in the colours of Benfica during the Champions League last season.

Nunez is the most expensive player in the club's history after the Merseysiders agreed a fee of £85 million with the Portuguese giants.

But who has got the better deal? Well, until the season proper begins and both men are given the chance to sharpen their claws in English climes, we can't be sure, but we can give it our best shot by comparing their statistics.

Using the Squawka Comparison Matrix, we were able to compare and contrast their league stats from 2021/2022 across a number of crucial metrics.

Of course, they didn't play the same number of games, so we have settled for the 'Per 90' option.

Now, of course, the Bundesliga and The Primeira Liga are very different beasts and we can only take so much from statistics accrued in those divisions.

It does however, give us a general idea of where their strengths lie and where they may do the most damage in England.
