Football Manager 2023 will be coming soon but how exactly do you get the new badges and kits into the game?

It’s a good question, and it is one of the things that has somewhat bugged the FM community over recent years.

Sports Interactive cannot match the likes of EA Sports when it comes to licences, meaning that a number of clubs in the game do not have their official badges or kits.

Famously, Watford are always licenced on the game due to their partnership with SI but the majority of top English clubs don’t have their badges or kits.

That can be rectified, though, if players want some realism.

Let’s explain how.

How to install real kits on Football Manager 2023

It’s pretty easy, overall.

  • You need a program on your computer that can extract files. Both WinRAR and 7-Zip are free options that can be downloaded online.
  • You’ll need to find a website with the kits and badges too. Using FM Scout is a good idea, as they always have the updated strips. They are also free. There are paid options out there, too.
  • After downloading them, follow these steps:
  • Find a pack you want to download. There are files that just have the PL kits, but there are also megapacks with every team in Europe.
  • Go to the Football Manager 2023 file that is installed on your computer. Create a ‘Graphics’ sub-folder.
  • Open that and create both a ‘kits’ folder and a ‘logos’ folder.
  • Download the pack you’ve picked.
  • Once it’s downloaded, extract the kits pack to your kits folder and the logos pack to your logos folder.
  • Open up FM23.
  • Click the FM logo and go to ‘preferences’. Click ‘advanced’ and then use the drop-down menu. Select ‘most common’ and click ‘interface’.
  • Go down to the Skin section and untick the following two sentences: ‘Use caching to decrease page load times’ and ‘Show screen IDs in Title Bar to assist skinning’.
  • Tick ‘reload skin when confirming changes in preferences’. Hit confirm.
  • Restart the game, and then boot up a new save. Once the kits and logos are added, they stay in the game forever.

These changes won’t effect ongoing games; you’ll have to start a new save for them to take effect.
