Vince McMahon's retirement from WWE last week meant that plans for Edge's return to TV had to be cancelled.

PWInsider is reporting that along with Edge, Beth Phoenix was also slated to return to WWE Raw at Madison Square Garden this week.

However, shortly after Vince McMahon's retirement from WWE on Friday night, plans for both returns were cancelled.

Edge and Beth didn't end up travelling to the show, and as of right now, there's no word on whether or not they'll be in Nashville for SummerSlam on Saturday night.

We reported that Edge and Beth Phoenix were both slated for MSG but then later reported plans changed shortly after the Vince McMahon exit.

Reports had stated that Edge and Beth were met with travel issues, but this report makes it seem like the decision to not have them at the show was one that WWE made.

The report also explained that Edge and Beth were both going to be at SummerSlam this weekend, but as explained earlier, it's unclear whether or not those plans have also been shelved.

The original plans had them also slated for Summerslam weekend, but there's no word whether that is still happening or they are holding their return off for a later date.

The two WWE Hall of Famers would have likely been involved in the segment on Raw between Judgement Day and The Mysterios, but that's nothing more than speculation at this stage.

WWE has been building to Edge's return since Money in the Bank on July 2, with spooky vignettes believed to be about the former WWE Champion airing every week on Raw.

There's no word on why the plans changed, but GiveMeSport will look to keep you updated if any additional information emerges on the matter over the coming days and weeks.

If the decision was made by Triple H, the new Head of Creative, it won't be the only big change he's made over the last week or so.

The former WWE Champion also decided to postpone Seth Rollins v Riddle, which was originally slated to take place at SummerSlam on Saturday night.

Riddle isn't really injured, so the match could happen if WWE wanted it to, but you can find out more about why it's not going ahead as planned by clicking here.

You can watch WWE SummerSlam live on Saturday in the US on Peacock and in all other international markets on the WWE Network.
