Chelsea are interested in signing Wolves centre back Max Kilman, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Despite the recent arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, the Stamford Bridge outfit are still looking for further defensive reinforcements, with Jones hinting that Kilman could become an option for the Blues.

What's the latest news involving Kilman?

Koulibaly's arrival should provide stiff competition to Thomas Tuchel's backline, but with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both moved on, Chelsea need more central defenders on board.

They've already missed out on Nathan Ake, who's now expected to stay at Manchester City, while Barcelona look to have pipped the Blues to the signing of Jules Kounde, as they did with Raphinha.

But Chelsea are targeting a move for Leicester star Wesley Fofana, while Kilman has been of interest in the past.

Back in February, talkSPORT claimed that the Londoners were 'considering a summer transfer bid' for the Wolves defender, who impressed playing in a back three under Bruno Lage last season.

Despite having just under four years remaining on his Molineux contract, Kilman is valued at just £17m by CIES, which suggests that he could be available for relatively cheap compared to the likes of Ake, Kounde and Presnel Kimpembe, who's also been linked in this window.

What did Jones say about Kilman?

When asked about centre back alternatives after the disappointment of missing out on Kounde, he told GIVEMESPORT: "There are other players that they're interested in. I think Max Kilman might be one of them at Wolves, so that might be one to look out for."

How did Kilman perform last season?

Despite Wolves' campaign petering out into a midtable finish, which was an underwhelming outcome considering European football looked on the cards for long periods, Kilman was one of the club's consistently top performers.

WhoScored gave only three players in the squad a higher rating, and two of those were Adama Traore, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Barcelona, and Toti, who made just four appearances.

Therefore, Kilman was Wolves' best performing defender, which is highlighted by some of his defensive numbers.

He registered on average 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes, 1.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 0.7 blocks, which put him in the top four players in the squad for each of those metrics.

Taking those impressive stats into consideration and the potentially reasonable fee Chelsea would be required to pay, they could do far worse than bringing the 25-year-old to Stamford Bridge before September's deadline.
