Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr is 'not a cash out fight', according to boxing promoter Eddie Hearn.

Reports last week suggested the two Brits have agreed to meet in a historic grudge match at London's O2 Arena on October 8.

But Hearn is still negotiating with Eubank Jr's promoter Kalle Sauerland to make the fight happen.

And despite reports to the contrary, he insists nothing has been signed as yet.

He told iFL TV: "There's been a number of news stories that have been out there that have been completely untrue.

"There are talks between myself and Kalle Sauerland, that's obvious. There's always been chats. We are in talks with Kalle.

"It wasn't the weight holding it up, it's just it's a massive fight. It's not a fight that we anticipated happening, it's like a dream matchup obviously because of the history, but it's not signed.

"But also I don't want to say something that again is going to upset anyone on that instance because I want to try and possibly make what would be a massive fight but there's a lot of talks going on and there's a long way to go.

"There's a lot of talks with other opponents as well. October 8 for Conor Benn is the date at the O2 Arena.

"Is it going to be Chris Eubank Jr? Maybe. It would be just out of this world and bizarre and one of those once in a lifetime matchups but there's a very good chance it could be a welterweight matchup as well."

Hearn had originally hoped to announce Benn's next opponent last week, with former champion Keith Thurman apparently also in the running.

He added: "The truth is I want a big fight for Conor Benn. The Chris Eubank fight, since they've both turned pro, that was just one of those matchups. Imagine if the sons fought.

"I'm looking for the biggest fight for Conor Benn. Our sole strategy is for him to become a world champion at welterweight. There is an opportunity potentially for this matchup that would be just a huge matchup for British boxing but things have got to be right.

"This is a fight that Conor has always wanted. This is different, this fight. It's not about world championships, it's not about legacy, this is not personal but it's historic.

"So we're considering it on that basis but we also have a strategy at 147 and things have got to be right around the park.

"So we're talking to Kalle, I'm not going to say anything more about it because there's not really a lot to tell you, other than myself and Kalle have a history of trying to make and wanting to make big fights and if there's a way, perhaps it happens."

And while Hearn himself is keen to get a deal over the line, he insists that everything has to be done properly in the right way.

He continued: "Wasserman has got to be happy.

“Junior’s got to be happy. Conor’s got to be happy. Tony’s got to be happy.

"It’s just one of those fights like I said that comes around once in a lifetime, but it’s got to be right because it’s not a cash out fight for us. Conor Benn is a huge star with a huge future.

"Conor believes - we believe - that he can beat Chris Eubank Jr. And obviously we know the rewards of that fight financially. It’s just an epic fight.

"But there’s a long way to go. Does that mean we can get it made? Possibly. Things change with just one conversation."
