Arsenal will continue to target a new winger and a new central midfielder in the transfer window but may need to sell players first, according to Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor.

Mikel Arteta is preparing his side for the return of European football to the Emirates next season and the Spaniard could still add to his squad before the deadline passes on September 1.

What is the latest transfer news from Arsenal?

The Gunners have acted swiftly in the summer window to secure five new recruits ahead of the 2022-23 campaign, including two reigning Premier League champions in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

But they are seemingly on the lookout for new recruits. A new winger likely remains a target for Arteta after the club were beaten to the signing of Raphinha by Barcelona while bolstering their midfield is also on the agenda, with Leicester City ace Youri Tielemans a long-term target.

As many as seven first-team players could also be heading the other way in order to help fund future spending. These include Bernd Leno, Nicolas Pepe, Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Leno appears set to complete a move to Fulham in the coming days but whether shifting the German’s £100,000 per-week wages will be enough to help in the recruitment side of things remains to be seen.

What has Taylor said on Arsenal’s transfer plans?

Taylor understands that the Gunners are continuing to chase a new winger and midfielder ahead of the deadline.

However, the reporter also believes that, in order to operate within the confines of financial fairplay, some big names may have to be moved on first.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “I think winger and central midfield will be the two key areas that they will look to recruit someone. They're spending exceeds £100 million right now. I think to balance the financial fairplay they will need to sell.”

Who are Arsenal most likely to sign in each position?

As far as central midfield is concerned, Tielemans would be the safest bet. The 52-cap Belgian international has been linked with Arsenal for a while now and would arrive with 120 Premier League appearances to his name already.

Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta also remains on the radar though with the Brazilian capable of operating both in midfield and across the front line.

On the wing, PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo has reemerged as a target in the past week and the Netherlands international has shown he has an eye for goal after scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists last season.
