DK Metcalf’s incredible stiff arm for the Seattle Seahawks against the New York Giants in 2020 is just one of the reasons they decided to give him a contract extension.

The Seattle Seahawks are going through a rebuilding stage at the moment, and on the surface it doesn’t exactly look like the prettiest rebuild that an NFL team is going to have to go through.

Not only did they trade franchise quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in one of the more surprising moves across the league this offseason, but they also released perennial All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner, allowing him to move to the Los Angeles Rams, their division rivals.

But there is one signing light that they can hold onto as they move forward. Whilst they might not be sure what is going to happen at quarterback moving forward, be it Geno Smith, Drew Lock or someone that they take in the 2023 NFL Draft, they know that the man that’s going to be on the receiving end of their passes will be DK Metcalf.

Metcalf the magnificent

With a frame of 6’4, 235lbs and a 40-yard dash time of 4.33 at the combine, it was always going to be highly likely that the former Ole Miss receiver would translate well into the NFL stage, and when the Seahawks took him with the 64th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, he showed right away that he was going to be special.

In his first season in the league, he hauled in 900 yards and 7 touchdowns in the regular season, before turning around and putting up 219 yards and a further touchdown in the Seahawks’ two games in the 2019 playoffs. He’s since managed to put up a total of 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns in his three years in the NFL.

Part of his dominance comes down to his physique, which he is never shy of showing off, even getting head coach Pete Carroll involved too:

All of which is why the Seahawks have decided to give him a three-year contract extension which is reportedly worth $72m:

Putting it to use

And more than just showing off, he can tell you to your face just how strong he is whenever he gets the chance, just ask the New York Giants’ James Bradberry.

He felt the full wrath of Metcalf’s arms during their game in 2020 that saw him throw Bradberry to the ground with authority:

Bradberry was still able to make the tackle, but it can’t have been a pleasant feeling for him, but with Metcalf’s extension now in place, you doubt he’s going to be the only one that’s on the receiving end of one of those in the future.
