Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton revealed that a DRS issue is what prevented him from finishing any higher in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Briton saw team-mate George Russell achieve his first-ever pole position in F1 for tomorrow's race, and that evidently shows that the car is very quick here at the Hungaroring this weekend.

Indeed, George will feel as though a race victory could be on the cards at a circuit that is very hard to overtake on, and a clean getaway tomorrow afternoon at lights out could well lead him to that first-ever P1 on the podium.

If Hamilton is to join him, though, he'll need to make more progress through the field, with him only fastest enough to earn seventh place on Saturday.

Post-race, speaking to the press here at the Hungaroring, he revealed that a DRS issue was what stopped him from heading any further up the grid, whilst he also congratulated his team-mate for his efforts on Saturday.

"I just had the DRS not working," said Hamilton.

"Huge congratulations to George, to get your first pole position and it's huge for us as a team. It's a huge positive. I'll do what I can tomorrow, George should be able to win from that position and at this track and I'll do what I can from where I am."

Mercedes are starting to get into the mix up at the front, and after the summer break they'll be hoping to build on that even more.

For now, though, they'll be focused on trying to get a first race win of the year under their belts tomorrow, and a first F1 race win under of his career for George.
