Lisandro Martinez impressed on his Manchester United debut on Sunday.

The defender, signed for £56.7m from Ajax earlier this month, wore the United shirt for the first time as the Red Devils finished off their pre-season at home to Rayo Vallecano.

Of course, the appearance of Cristiano Ronaldo rather overshadowed Martinez's first outing for the club.

But while Ronaldo had a quiet 45 minutes before leaving Old Trafford before the end of the match, Martinez was involved far more during his 61 minutes on the pitch.

The centre back looked composed on the ball and got stuck in with some strong tackles during the 1-1 draw.

Amad Diallo had put United 1-0 ahead - the scoreline when Martinez was substituted off just beyond the hour mark.

He will no doubt claim that as a clean sheet despite Alvaro Garcia later equalising for the Spanish side.

But it's not just a 61-minute clean sheet that Martinez will take away from his debut. That's because he actually returned some impressive statistics.

He won 100% of his tackles, had a 100% final third pass accuracy, a 96% pass accuracy, won possesion five times and produced one clearance and one block.

Not bad at all.

What do those stats actually look like?

Martinez was partnered alongside Raphael Varane during his time on the pitch and manager Erik ten Hag was pleased with their partnership.

“It was a really good combination with Rapha," Ten Hag said. "They played solid that’s good to see. He integrated quite well into the team.”

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News gave Martinez a 7/10 for his performance - the joint-highest rating from the team.

They wrote: "Enjoyed his duel with fellow South American Falcao and settled into the game to produce a performance that could oust Victor Lindelof. 7."

Promising stuff indeed.
