Lionel Messi was somewhere close to his very best in Paris Saint-Germain's first game of the 2022/23 season.Christophe Galtier's side and Nantes locked horns in the Trophee des Champions last Sunday evening and it was a hugely one-sided affair.PSG ran out 4-0 winners at the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, with Messi the man opening the scoring on the night. It was a wonderful finish from the Argentine superstar as well. He showed ridiculous composure and close control to take the ball around the goalkeeper, before cooly finishing off the chance.

That is a vintage Messi goal right there, something which we didn't see anywhere near enough of in 2021/22.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or was virtually unplayable throughout the victory over Nantes and was deservedly named Man of the Match, despite the fact his partner-in-crime Neymar bagged a brace.

We may very well start to see the best of Messi in a PSG shirt on a consistent basis after a fairly average debut season - and that's a scary prospect for the rest of Europe.

As well as delivering on the pitch last Sunday night, the 35-year-old showed a touch of class off of it after collecting his winner medal.

A young fan attempted to get a picture with the global icon, only to be halted in his tracks by the security team around Messi.

But once Messi realised what was going on, he quickly intervened and made the supporter's dream come true by taking a selfie with him.

Well played, Leo.

A simple act of kindness that has given the young fan a moment they will never, ever forget.

Messi and the rest of PSG's star-studded squad will now switch focus to their 2022/23 Ligue 1 campaign, which kicks off on Saturday with a match away at Clermont Foot.

After that fixture, the current champions of France host Montpellier, before a trip to face Lille on August 21st.

PSG will be expected to retain their Ligue 1 crown with relative ease, especially after their smart recruitment this summer which has seen the likes of Vitinha, Nordi Mukiele and Hugo Ekitike arrive at the Parc Des Princes.

The main goal for the team will be success in the Champions League, particularly after their humiliating exit at the hands of Real Madrid last season.
