The NBA Draft for 2021 was held a year ago, but here's how it would have gone if we could look back on it and make some changes!
A star-studded 2021 NBA Draft class was formally selected into the association last year, giving the NBA an injection of talent that might transform the league's future. Did the players move in the proper order, then?
When you have 20/20 hindsight on your side, the majority of the answers to those questions are approximately what you would anticipate.
Teams today cannot, of course, redraft. They are stuck with the individuals they either drafted or signed. But GiveMeSport has predicted what the 2021 NBA Draft will look like if we had hindsight.
Let's move straight on to the 2021 NBA Redraft with the benefit of hindsight.
1. Detroit Pistons
Original pick: Cade Cunningham
Redraft pick: Cade Cunningham
Large wings with the size, ability, scoring, and playmaking that Cunningham possesses are just so very uncommon. It's also difficult to exaggerate how crucial he already is to the Pistons.
2. Houston Rockets
Original pick: Jalen Green
Redraft pick: Evan Mobley
In his one season with the Cavaliers, Mobley has shown that he might well be a true unicorn, averaging nearly two blocks per game, 15.0 points, and 8.3 rebounds per game, and demonstrating his skills as one of the NBA's most explosive young bigs.
3. Cleveland Cavaliers
Original pick: Evan Mobley
Redraft pick: Scottie Barnes
Barnes' worth as a switchable, big-bodied defender with flawless passing vision would make him the type of player you need to build a championship team.
4. Toronto Raptors
Original pick: Scottie Barnes
Redraft pick: Franz Wagner
Due to his defence, distributing, and stature, Wagner emerged as one of the most desirable long-term possibilities in the draft while shooting 35.4 percent from 3-point range with the Magic last season.
5. Orlando Magic
Original pick: Jalen Suggs
Redraft pick: Jalen Green
After some early difficulties, Green had a strong end to his rookie year and appears capable of continuing to live up to the extremely high expectations that come with being taken second overall.
6. Oklahoma City Thunder
Original pick: Josh Giddey
Redraft pick: Josh Giddey
Giddey's shot is the only thing that's in doubt, and they recently hired Chip Engelland, one of the most renowned shooting coaches in the game, which might eventually be the perfect remedy to help him improve.
7. Golden State Warriors
Original pick: Jonathan Kuminga
Redraft pick: Jonathan Kuminga
As a rookie, Kuminga participated in 70 games and even saw action as a 19-year-old during the NBA Finals. The Warriors won the championship, so it would be foolish to change course now, even if Kuminga wasn't and might not be a superstar now.
8. Orlando Magic
Original pick: Franz Wagner
Redraft pick: Herbert Jones
Jones is the most versatile wing defender in the class, and the value he adds there more than offsets some of his offensive shortcomings.
9. Sacramento Kings
Original pick: Davion Mitchell
Redraft pick: Quentin Grimes
Grimes appears to have the potential to be a fantastic two-way player for the Knicks as they develop.
10. Memphis Grizzlies
Original pick: Ziaire Williams
Redraft pick: Jalen Suggs
Suggs would complement Ja Morant perfectly next to them in Memphis' exciting young core thanks to his selfless style of play.
11. Charlotte Hornets
Original pick: James Bouknight
Redraft pick: Moses Moody
Moody would be the ideal complement to LaMelo Ball because of his already strong defence and his 80th percentile spot-up shooting ability as a rookie.
12. San Antonio Spurs
Original pick: Joshua Primo
Redraft pick: Ayo Dosunmu
It is evident that the progress Dosunmu made as a shooter toward the end of his college tenure stuck. He has a strong sense of the game and plays with it.
13. Indiana Pacers
Original pick: Chris Duarte
Redraft pick: Ziaire Williams
Williams showed some genuine talent on a strong Memphis squad and has the five-star credentials to maybe be a cornerstone for a franchise that is in the process of being rebuilt.
14. Golden State Warriors
Original pick: Moses Moody
Redraft pick: Bones Hyland
Hyland is a brave chucker who plays with a ton of confidence and composure, which fits with Golden State's fast-paced style and mentality.
15. Washington Wizards
Original pick: Corey Kispert
Redraft pick: Davion Mitchell
Mitchell is a difference-maker on defence who might serve as the team's top playmaker early on, possibly right away.
16. Houston Rockets
Original pick: Alperen Sengun
Redraft pick: Joshua Primo
Primo seems like he'd make for an intriguing upside swing if he were still in the game. He had a pretty excellent predraft process that demonstrated his length and two-way abilities.
17. New Orleans Pelicans
Original pick: Trey Murphy III
Redraft pick: Joshua Christopher
Christopher is a hard-working, versatile guard who might help a team that is already in the playoff race win.
18. Oklahoma City Thunder
Original pick: Tre Mann
Redraft pick: Brandon Boston Jr.
Boston Jr. would probably be selected in the first round of a redraft. He is a powerful wing with the ability to make shots.
19. Charlotte Hornets
Original pick: Kai Jones
Redraft pick: Trey Murphy
Murphy is a long forward with outstanding scoring skills who can be a devastating catch-and-shoot threat.
20. Atlanta Hawks
Original pick: Jalen Johnson
Redraft pick: Chris Duarte
Duarte appears to be considerably more able to accommodate their timeframe. Although he is an older prospect, he has a tremendous build, can shoot from deep, and would be a perfect fit for the Hawks' wing rotation.
21. Los Angeles Clippers
Original pick: Keon Johnson
Redraft pick: Alperen Sengun
Even though Sengun played the 17th-most minutes per game as a rookie, he ranked seventh in VORP and in the top 10 among all drafted players in both rebounds per game and assists per game.
22. Indiana Pacers
Original pick: Isaiah Jackson
Redraft pick: Austin Reaves
Reaves, who joined the Lakers as an undrafted free agency and has so far demonstrated why he should have been selected in the first round, might start for an L.A. club that contends in 2022–2023.
23. Houston Rockets
Original pick: Usman Garuba
Redraft pick: Isaiah Jackson
Jackson ranked first among all qualified rookies in PER and second among all rookies in blocked shots per game (Player Efficiency Rating).
24. Houston Rockets
Original pick: Joshua Christopher
Redraft pick: Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Robinson-Earl concluded his rookie season ranked 13th in win shares, 15th in minutes played, fourth in rebounds per game and 14th in 3-point shooting percentage. He appears to have been an excellent deal for OKC and would still be valuable at No. 24.
25. New York Knicks
Original pick: Quentin Grimes
Redraft pick: Kai Jones
Even if Jones doesn't have the ability to win right away or even soon, he still has a lot of potential for the future at this point in the draft.
26. Denver Nuggets
Original pick: Bones Hyland
Redraft pick: James Bouknight
Many people continue to think Bouknight is talented and don't see him falling out of the first round.
27. Brooklyn Nets
Original pick: Cam Thomas
Redraft pick: Cam Thomas
Thomas played 67 times for a playoff team in Brooklyn and had some spectacular moments as a rookie, but aside from his scoring, he's a waste of space who doesn't really contribute anything.
28. Philadelphia 76ers
Original pick: Jaden Springer
Redraft pick: Jose Alvarado
Alvarado's height definitely prevented him from being selected, but if we were to do this again, his worth on both ends would place him in the top 30 players.
29. Phoenix Suns
Original pick: Day'Ron Sharpe
Redraft pick: Usman Garuba
Garuba didn't display much offensively with the Rockets last season, but in only 24 outings, his defensive and leaping skills appear to have the potential to help him stick in the NBA.
30. Memphis Grizzlies
Original pick: Santi Aldama
Redraft pick: Corey Kispert
Kispert is a capable, successful, and confident competitor. Even if they might not be a future star, Memphis could use a shooter to complement Ja Morant.
