Paddy Pimblett’s behind the scenes vlog of his fight night at the O2 Arena in London shows us his impressive weight cut technique to miraculously make weight so close to the fight.

The video shows us a range of things about his pre-fight routines, including behind the scenes access to his media duties as well as the antics he gets up to with his team and fellow fighter Molly McCann including playing video games.

Probably the most fascinating clips of the video are those of him taking drastic measures to cut weight to meet his target for the fight before the official weigh-in.

He was taking on Jordan Leavitt, forcing him to submit in the second round to make it a third victory in the UFC and a second in 2022.

Next, he sets his sights on a huge fight in America after saying he will return in December for another fight, but not in London.

The only way he’d fight again in the UK is if he could do so at his sacred Anfield, although that isn’t going to happen during the Premier League season.

Paul Reed is the fighter’s strength and conditioning coach and it is his job to make sure Pimblett cuts weight safely in a controlled environment.

McCann and Pimblett celebrate.

Pimblett revealed last time he was cutting weight he put himself in serious danger as he lost about 16 or 17 pounds overnight and had a dexus scan which showed he had no testosterone in his body, he had the testosterone of a three-year-old boy.

He was 0.1 kilos away from kidney failure, so that dexus scan is vital to show us how not to cut weight, whilst remembering these are professionals with professional expert teams around them to help.

The team will have devised a plan to put all the work in before the weight cut to make it as healthy as possible, with Reed echoing the sentiments whilst saying how dangerous it is to glamorise weight cutting.

You can see Pimblett begin his weight cutting for UFC London at 8:55 in the below video:

It can be incredibly dangerous if not executed perfectly with expert monitoring and help around such as Reed himself. Without good advice, Reed reminds us to stay away from trying to do it.

The Baddy is wrapped in a thermal sheet and towels to force him to sweat the weight out and hit his targets before the fight.

Ultimately, he was successful and made the target weight in time, but it didn’t look like fun at all, fair play to Pimblett for powering through and winning his fight despite his tragic loss away from the Octagon.
