Crystal Palace 'not even considering' selling £34.2m star at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace are not considering selling Wilfried Zaha this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Having entered the final 12 months of his Eagles contract, interest in the winger’s services have started to materialise, but Jones reckons Patrick Vieira’s side are confident of keeping him.

What’s the latest news involving Zaha?

It wouldn’t be a transfer window if there wasn’t interest in Zaha, with the ex-Manchester United star linked away from Selhurst Park almost every window since he signed a new deal back in 2018.

But with the 29-year-old now in the final year of his terms, Palace might have a serious decision to make before the market closes for business on 1 September.

That’s because unless Zaha ends up signing another contract extension, this summer window marks the final opportunity the south London club will have to cash in on the attacker for a significance fee.

What year did Crystal Palace legend Ian Wright leave the club?

However, despite having interest from both Roma and Chelsea, Jones doesn’t reckons that Palace are even thinking about selling the £130,000 per-week star.

What did Jones say about Zaha?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Palace are not even considering him leaving at this moment because Zaha is so important to them, and their season begins on Friday.

“They’re quite optimistic about the campaign they could have, and they believe he’ll be starting that game for them.”

Why do Palace want to keep Zaha?

You only have to look at Palace’s wretched record when Zaha doesn’t play to realise how important he is to their plans.

In the last five seasons, he has missed 26 Premier League games, with the Eagles tasting victory just four times in that period.

Their results last term weren’t as bad as previous years, with just one defeat in five, but back in 2017-2018, Palace lost all nine top-flight matches when Zaha wasn’t involved.

Therefore, while Vieira is building an impressive team at Selhurst Park, those numbers without Zaha prove that he remains the most important player at the club, which is why Palace are so desperate to keep him on board, and are seemingly willing to let him leave in January or on a free next summer to prevent him from departing in the coming weeks.
