West Ham confident over 'agreement' for £17m star at London Stadium

West Ham United manager David Moyes

West Ham are confident they can reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Filip Kostic this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

However, the transfer expert says there is still a lot of work to do, especially when it comes to agreeing personal terms with the player.

What is the latest news involving Kostic?

As per Sky Sports, West Ham are working on a deal to bring Kostic to the London Stadium.

It is believed that the 29-year-old, who can play as a left winger or a left wing-back, has already been the subject of a failed £12.6m bid from the Hammers.

According to Sky Sports, Frankfurt are looking for a fee closer to £16.8m, which seems like a very fair figure, while other reports have suggested that he could cost exactly £17m.

Kostic has started the new season strongly, assisting in his side’s recent DFB-Pokal first-round win against Magdeburg, while last term, he also impressed.

In total, the Serbian made 43 appearances and came up with over 15 goal contributions as Frankfurt went on to win the Europa League, knocking West Ham out of the competition in the process.

What has Romano said about Kostic and West Ham?

Romano says West Ham are continuing to negotiate with both Frankfurt and Kostic and has suggested that there could be a development this week.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist said: “Kostic, they feel they can find an agreement with Eintracht but not yet on the player side, on personal terms, so there are negotiations ongoing.

“It’s not collapsed yet but, at the moment, there is still no agreement with the player, so we have to see what happens this week.”

Who could West Ham turn to if they fail to sign Kostic?

Leicester City’s Luke Thomas could be one option for West Ham if the club are unable to lure Kostic to the London Stadium.

Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express told GMS last month that the Hammers do have an interest in the English left-back.

One report from the MailOnline states that he would cost £20m if Leicester decide to sell him this summer.

Kostic seems to be the one David Moyes really wants, though, and it is not hard to see why. Over the last year, he has ranked in the 99th percentile for shot-creating actions and the 94th for touches in the attacking penalty area among full-backs (via FBref).

Of course, the Serbia international has been playing at wing-back, but the above is impressive, nonetheless. For around £17m, he could be a very good addition to West Ham’s squad.
