Following the chaotic Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend, it is that time of year again where we are stripped of any F1 races to watch as the sport goes on its official summer holiday.

Luckily, the Premier League starts again this weekend to entertain us!

And while the four-week summer break may be welcomed by some drivers, we’re sure some will be desperate to get back out on that track to either continue their good form or to rectify their poor start to the season.

With this natural checkpoint of the season, Top Gear have decided to rank all of the drivers’ performance so far this season by way of a grading system, and they have not held back!

Here are their rankings:

Max Verstappen (Red Bull), 258 points: A+

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), 178 points: B

Sergio Perez (Red Bull), 173 points: B

George Russell (Mercedes), 158 points: A

Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri), 16 points: B-

Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), 16 points: C

Mick Schumacher (Haas), 12 points: B

Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri), 11 points: C-

Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo), 5 points: C

Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), 4 points: C

Alexander Albon (Williams), 3 points: B

Nicholas Latifi (Williams), 0 points: D

Unsurprisingly, the defending champion and current points leader Max Verstappen is given the highest ranking for his incredible turnaround of the 46-point deficit into an 80-point lead on Charles Leclerc this season.

Meanwhile, most noteworthy on the other end of the grading scale is Daniel Ricciardo, who Top Gear have given a pretty damning D rating. To say that the 33-year-old has underperformed at McLaren would be an understatement, sitting 57 points behind his far less experienced teammate Lando Norris.

This summer break may be a very important one for the Australian to regather himself and return with a strong end to the season, as is the case for many other drivers whose places may also be under threat, following a poor start to this current F1 season.
