West Ham have ‘asked for’ £33.5m midfielder at London Stadium

West Ham United manager David Moyes

West Ham United have ‘asked for’ Napoli attacking midfielder Piotr Zielinski this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Hammers have enjoyed a productive window so far, bringing in the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola and further acquisitions could still follow.

What is the latest news involving Zielinski?

West Ham manager David Moyes is believed to be in the market for a player of Zielinski’s profile after missing out on the signature of Jesse Lingard.

Italian outlet Il Mattino (via Sport Witness) claim the east London outfit have made an offer of almost close to €40 million (£33.5m) for the Poland international, who has asked for a four-year deal worth £5.5m per season.

It’s also believed that Napoli’s hierarchy have held a long phone conversation with Zielinski’s agent in order to persuade the player to accept West Ham’s proposal as they are keen to reinvest the funds from his potential sale into Luciano Spalleti’s playing squad.

The Serie A giants have already lost several high-profile stars this summer, though, with Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens all seeking pastures new.

And that could complicate negotiations between the two clubs as West Ham look to wrap up a deal for Zielinski before September’s deadline.

What has Romano said about Zielinski?

Romano has informed GiveMeSport that West Ham have enquired about Zielinski but that it will not be ‘an easy’ deal to complete.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Zielinski is difficult because Napoli want at least 40 million (£33.5m).

“They have already lost many important players; Insigne, Koulibaly, many, many key players for the team and so Zielinski is absolutely not easy. It’s true that West Ham asked for him, but it’s not an easy one.”

Would Zielinski be a good signing?

Zielinski has gone from strength to strength since arriving at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona from Udinese in 2016.

Last season, the technically gifted ace registered eight goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Napoli, firing them to a third-place finish in Serie A.

What nickname is given to West Ham United?

He has become renowned for his key passes, long shots and dribbling ability in recent years and would likely be a valuable addition to West Ham’s attacking options.

Convincing Zielinski to make the move to the capital club appears to be the biggest hurdle, but if Moyes and co can do just that then West Ham will make further waves in this window.
