Chelsea target Wesley Fofana ‘wants the move’ to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Foxes in recent days after impressing throughout his two-year stay in English football.

What is the latest news involving Fofana?

David Ornstein of The Athletic recently revealed that Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Fofana following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

It’s believed that Leicester value the France Under-21 international at around £85 million and are very reluctant to sanction his sale given his importance to the side.

Chelsea reportedly remain hopeful that the Midlands outfit will lower their valuation, though, meaning talks are likely to ensue for Fofana’s signature.

However, Leicester are in an extremely strong position around the negotiating table as Fofana’s existing contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2027.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has backed up Ornstein’s claims, stating that the centre-back is a ‘top target’ for Chelsea but that his current employers ‘want to keep him’.

What has Jones said about Fofana?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Fofana is eager to make the switch from Leicester to Chelsea and that it’s now up to the Blues to ‘make a breakthrough’.

In an interview with GMS, he said: "Fofana wants the move to Chelsea, so now the club have to make a breakthrough.

“Leicester are stubborn, though, and hard to strike a bargain with. They usually hold out for every last pound they feel a player is worth, and more."

Would Fofana be a good signing?

Fofana joined Leicester from boyhood club Saint-Etienne in a £36.5m deal back in 2020 and he impressed in his debut campaign making 42 appearances in all competitions.

The youngster helped Brendan Rodgers’ charges to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League while also claiming the FA Cup for the first time in the clubs’ history, leading to his boss labelling him "absolutely colossal".

A broken leg picked up in pre-season stunted Fofana’s progress last season, though, limiting him to just 12 outings in the top-flight and Europa Conference League.

Nevertheless, that setback clearly hasn’t put Chelsea off, and Fofana could be poised to take the next step in his promising career before September’s deadline.
