Everton manager Frank Lampard could play an important role in the Merseyside club signing Billy Gilmour this summer, believes talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move to Goodison Park, and Crook thinks the relationship he has with his former boss could go a long way for the Toffees.

What is the latest news involving Gilmour?

According to the MailOnline, Everton are interested in signing Gilmour on a loan deal during this transfer window.

With N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher all currently at Chelsea, it seems there is little room for the 21-year-old in Thomas Tuchel's squad.

It was the same theme last year, with Gilmour joining Norwich City on loan to get more game time.

There, the £10.8m-rated Scotland international made 24 Premier League appearances as Norwich went on to get relegated in a disappointing campaign for him and the Canaries.

What has Crook said about Gilmour to Everton?

Crook thinks Lampard, who gave Gilmour his Premier League debut while he was manager at Chelsea, could play an important role in luring his former player to Goodison Park, while the talkSPORT reporter has also not ruled out the possibility of a permanent transfer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Crook said: "He's got that relationship. He gave him his debut at Chelsea, probably played his best football under Lampard.

"He had a pretty difficult time at Norwich last year. I think that relationship could be important, and I wonder if Chelsea might even consider selling him permanently. I wouldn't rule it out."

Would Gilmour be a good signing for Everton?

As Crook touched on, last season was a difficult one for Gilmour. Nevertheless, he is still a player with a lot of ability, with Lampard even likening him to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

"Paul Scholes is obviously one of the greatest midfield players I’ve played against in the Premier League," Lampard told Sky Sports (via talkSPORT) back in 2020 when discussing Gilmour.

"He would always pick the right pass, he had incredible range. If you did try and jump from midfield and get to him and get close to him he’d just play it around the corner because he knew you were coming. And Billy has shown early signs of that kind of ability."

Ultimately, if Everton are looking to bring in a young and vibrant midfielder to Goodison Park this summer, then Gilmour seems ideal.
