Wolverhampton Wanderers are working to find a replacement for striker Raul Jimenez after he picked up an injury in pre-season, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Bruno Lage has been preparing his side for the 2022-23 Premier League campaign but is set to be forced into the transfer market to complete another deal.

What is the latest on Jimenez?

The Molineux marksman will have been looking forward to the new campaign after fighting his way back from a nasty head injury last term.

But he has been hit by a cruel set-back. In the first half of a friendly clash with Besiktas, Jimenez was withdrawn after sustaining damage to his MCL, and now faces several weeks on the sidelines.

It leaves Lage short of options in attack. Wolves kick off their Premier League campaign against Leeds on Saturday and it will now likely see either Hee-Chan Hwang or Daniel Podence played through the middle.

After news of the injury broke, club legend Steve Bull sent a clear message to the board in his Express & Star column: “The club have to start searching and find someone to replace him.”

Jimenez initially made the move to Wolves from Benfica in the summer of 2018 and has since gone on to score 54 goals in 146 games for the club.

Now the hunt begins to find someone who can fill his boots.

What has Crook said on Wolves’ situation?

Crook understands Wolves are working on finding a replacement for Jimenez ahead of the start of the new season.

The talkSPORT reporter also details that they are ideally looking for a loan who already has Premier League experience.

Crook told GIVEMESPORT: "They need to a forward now because Jimenez is going to be out for between six to eight weeks. That might be a short-term loan signing."

Who could Wolves sign this summer?

Another raid of Benfica could well be on the cards, with young striker Goncalo Ramos previously reported to be a target for Wolves.

The 21-year-old found the net seven times in 29 Liga Portugal appearances last season but does not fit the criteria reported by Crooks of having Premier League experience.

That may well be where Christian Benteke comes in. The experienced marksman has been monitored by Wolves and has 280 Premier League appearances to his name as well as 86 goals.

While a loan deal for the Crystal Palace striker is unlikely, Wolves may be able to pick up a bargain with the 31-year-old entering the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park.
