The Dallas Cowboys have suffered a major blow to their offensive plans following an injury to wide receiver James Washington.

James Washington is a new face for the Dallas Cowboys, having been signed as a free agent for them this past offseason following his departure from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He’ll be hoping that he can have more success with the Cowboys than he did in Pittsburgh though, as he struggled to put up any impressive numbers, hampered by being quite down the pecking order behind the likes of Chase Claypool, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson, but you could make the argument that he’s in the same boat in Dallas.

With Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb already in the wide receiver room, he was never going to establish himself as a number one receiver, but could have at least worked his way a little further up the rotation than he would have done with the Steelers.

A lot to work on

His status with the Steelers meant that he wasn’t able to put up the greatest of numbers, as during his four seasons at Heinz Field he was only able to put up 1,649 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, the numbers you’d expect a number one wideout to get in a single campaign.

It’s perhaps a reason why the Cowboys only gave him a one-year deal this past offseason as they looked to make him prove that he deserved a place with the team rather than assuming he’d be able to produce consistently going forward.

Well now his time with the Cowboys is set to suffer quite a major setback after an incident at training camp.

A devastating blow

Washington is set to be out for the foreseeable future after what is being reported to be a fractured right foot:

Now whether or not the Cowboys stick with what they have or look to bring someone in as a free agent, we’ll just have to wait and see, but for Washington this could end up being a disaster for him. It may be that they get someone in to replace him, or they don’t but when he comes back he isn’t quite up to scratch compared to what the Cowboys thought they were getting.

Either way, with the insecurity of a one-year deal, you’d hate to be Washington right now knowing what could happen when and if he comes back from the injury.
