Emannuel Eboue's comical attempt to find out North Korean tactical change in 2010 World Cup

Alessia Russo bought back shades of Emmanuel Eboue with her actions in the Euro 2022 final between England and Germany at Wembley.

A note was passed to Germany’s Kathrin Hendrich, which appeared to contain details of a tactical switch made by their manager, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.

Russo, England’s striker, proceeded to peer over Hendrich’s shoulder and looked at the note in a cheeky attempt to find out what the opposition had planned.

That moment reminds us, and many football fans, of Eboue’s actions in the 2010 World Cup.

On June 25, 2010, Ivory Coast and North Korea contested their Group A match at the Mbombela Stadium in South Africa.

During the match, North Korean coach Kim Jong-Hun called his captain, Hong Yong-Jo, to the sideline to give him a tactical message.

Eboue went over too in an attempt to understand what the North Koreans had planned.

Despite speaking in Korean, which Eboue cannot speak or understand, the former Arsenal right-back pretended he knew exactly what was being said in a comical moment.

The footage has gone viral again and you can view it below…

What a character Eboue is. His actions against North Korea, which occurred just over 12 years ago, will always be funny.

In 2016, Eboue reflected on the moment and, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, confirmed he had no idea what was being said. He also reflected on an encounter with North Koreans players at the airport the next day.

Eboue told The Telegraph: “That time, I honestly don’t know what was going on in my head at the time. But people aren’t going to forget about it.

“When their coach called his captain over, I went close to him, nodded and said, ‘OK, no problem, I understand, yeah?’ He said to me, ‘You speak Korean?’ I said, ‘No, but I understand a little bit’ and he was laughing.

“It was funny, it was our last game so we were at the airport the next day with the Korean players and one of them came over to me and said, ‘Eboue, you speak my language?’ I said, ‘Yeah’.

“So he says, ‘OK, how do you say ‘good morning’ in Korean? So I shout, ‘Yang!!!’ and he literally fell on the floor laughing.”
