Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has questioned the current âcircusâ surrounding Jake Paul.
While it may feel like Jake Paul is always in the mix in the boxing world, he hasnât actually fought professionally since back in December. On the one hand itâs a testament to him that heâs been able to remain relevant across those eight months but on the other hand, it also makes you wonder why he hasnât been active.
Of course, many of us know the answer to that question, with both Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr pulling out of scheduled bouts with âThe Problem Childâ in weeks gone by.
The proposed Madison Square Garden event that was set for Saturday will now no longer be going ahead and Eddie Hearn, who has worked closely with Paul in the past, had some words of wisdom for the youngster during an interview with DAZN.
âItâs such a mess, the whole thing,â he said.
âIt started with Tommy Fury. Itâs Hasim Rahman, he said, she said. Booked out Madison Square Garden. Itâs a circus. Itâs just like, being in the ring itself, the boxing business is just not that easy. You can't just walk into the ring and become a champion, you canât just pick up the game and the business of boxing and start executing successful live events.â
âThe problem will be the reputation of future events. Are we actually going to see these events? I feel a bit for Jake, because where heâs quite unpopular with his industry, there will always be people trying to make sure he doesn't succeed. So he has it all against him and the inexperience of not working in the boxing business. They should have known it's very unlikely that Rahmanâs going to make 200lbs.â
When did Hearn and Paul work together?
Even though they didnât have many nice things to say about one another, Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul did manage to pull off a pretty successful event earlier this year in the form of Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano - which, ironically, also went down at the worldâs most famous arena.
Who knows, maybe theyâll even team up again one day.
