Kevin Knox II, a former NBA first-round pick, has been formally signed by the Detroit Pistons to a two-year deal.

The Detroit Pistons and forward Kevin Knox, a former member of the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks, reached an agreement on a two-year, $6 million contract on 30th June when free agency officially began.

The team had to make a few roster adjustments in advance to make Knox's signing official, thus it has only been a little over a month since they made the announcement.

Below is everything we know about the former Knicks first-round signing with the Pistons.

Pistons officially sign former Knicks first-round pick

Knox, a 22-year-old guard out of the University of Kentucky, was selected ninth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft and appeared to be a high-calibre prospect who may help the New York Knicks climb out of the Eastern Conference cellar.

Knox constantly watched his minutes and role with the Knicks decline until he was moved to the Atlanta Hawks this past season while averaging 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 75 games overall during his rookie season.

In 17 games with Atlanta, Kevin Knox averaged 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 35.6% shooting from the field. The former lottery pick now has a new opportunity in Detroit with an up-and-coming squad that may very well welcome him on the wing.

Knox, who is still quite young and has untapped potential, might blend in well with other dynamic players like Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, and the newly-minted Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren.

The Pistons have nothing to lose by signing Kevin Knox to a brief, two-year contract because they are still in the process of rebuilding ahead of the 2022–23 season. The worst-case scenario is that he has trouble establishing himself in Detroit and they try to trade him for a future draft pick or just let him go when he becomes a free agent at the end of the 2023–24 season.

The Pistons now have 17 players on their roster with guaranteed contracts for the 2022–23 season after recently adding Knox. Kemba Walker is one of these players, with whom the organization has reached a buyout agreement but who has not yet been waived.
