CJ Elleby, who spent the previous two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement on a training camp contract.

There is a very slim chance that the Minnesota Timberwolves will stick with their future picks after watching them dodge and weave at the 2022 NBA Draft.

However, we are not simply able to point to the next NBA Drafts and identify how many and whose picks the Timberwolves now hold after dealing away a sizable sum in NBA Draft pick currency to purchase Utah Jazz centre Rudy Gobert.

Former Trail Blazers wing signed by Timberwolves

The Portland Trail Blazers selected CJ Elleby, who was selected 46th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, as their newest addition to the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason.

According to HoopsHype, the Timberwolves and Elleby reached a training camp agreement on Tuesday, enabling the rookie wing to contend for the team's final roster slot.

The 22-year-old Elleby played a minor role in Portland during his first two seasons in the NBA, but considering the number of ailments the Trail Blazers dealt with this past season, he did see plenty of action.

CJ Elleby averaged 5.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 39.3% from the field and 29.4% from three-point range in 58 games played during the 2021–22 season.

Elleby's perimeter shooting did improve from his rookie season, but one of the main reasons he has not received a lot of playing time early in his career is because of his inconsistent three-point shooting.

The Timberwolves will have a maximum of 20 contracts once the official signing of his contract with Minnesota and the start of training camp. However, only 12 of these contracts are guaranteed, thus three roster positions are still up for grabs when the 2022–23 season begins.

Phillip Wheeler and David McCormick have both inked Exhibit-10 training camp contracts with the Timberwolves, and Austin Rivers, Nathan Knight, and Jaylen Nowell all have partially guaranteed contracts for the next season.

For the Timberwolves, who have high postseason hopes during the offseason, CJ Elleby will need to truly shine throughout training camp to land a spot on the team.
