Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo still has agent Jorge Mendes working on a transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Portugal legend reportedly has his heart set on a move away from Old Trafford this summer, though Mendes has so far struggled to drum up interest in his client.

What is the latest news involving Ronaldo?

At the end of July, Sky Sports reported that Ronaldo and Mendes had sat down with United to discuss the forward's future.

Those talks, however, do not seem to have changed Ronaldo's mind, with the same outlet claiming that he still wants to leave the club in this transfer window.

United's lack of Champions League football is believed to be behind the 37-year-old's desire to depart Old Trafford.

According to The Times, who reported last month that Ronaldo had told United that he wishes to leave, the former Juventus and Real Madrid star wants to play in Europe's elite competition for the rest of his career.

What has Romano said about Ronaldo's United future?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Mendes is still trying to secure Ronaldo a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer expert said: "At the moment, for Cristiano, the situation is still quiet. Jorge Mendes, I'm told, is still working to find a solution, so maybe trying with Atletico Madrid, with Bayern.

"These clubs have stated in public many, many times that they have no intention to go for Cristiano Ronaldo. So it's not an easy one definitely for Cristiano and Jorge Mendes."

Will Ronaldo get his transfer?

It looks unlikely. The interest just does not seem to be there, while it would be almost impossible for United to replace him.

There are not too many elite forwards on the market right now, with the likes of Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez recently securing moves to United's rivals Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.

Last season, Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 appearances. He was easily their best player.

Ultimately, the above is going to be difficult for Erik ten Hag to replace, especially this late in the transfer window. Therefore, it would not be a shock if Ronaldo was still at Old Trafford after deadline day.

It is clearly a scenario the Portugal international does not want, but he has very few options right now, if any at all, while United cannot afford to lose him given the goals that he brings and the lack of potential replacements out there.
