Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is desperate to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

But Phillips has claimed that while the American businessman is keen on a deal, Thomas Tuchel isn't convinced about signing the 117-goal Portugal international from their Premier League rivals.

What's the latest news involving Ronaldo?

After Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford last month following United's failure to qualify for the Champions League, Chelsea suddenly emerged as a surprise option for the attacker.

This came after The Athletic revealed that Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's agent, had met with Boehly in Portugal, with a shock move to Stamford Bridge for the 37-year-old one of the topics on the agenda.

Less than two weeks later, the same outlet claimed that Chelsea were 'considering' a move for the ex-Real Madrid and Juventus star, even though United are adamant he's not for sale.

But The Athletic then reported that the Blues had ended their interest in Ronaldo, who is currently no closer to knowing where he'll be playing his football next season.

Regardless, Phillips was informed earlier this week that Boehly is still enthusiastic over a deal and hinted that Tuchel's mind could be changed following his frustrations over Chelsea's current options.

What did Phillips say about Ronaldo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I was told that Boehly really wants to sign Ronaldo, but up until now, Tuchel has said that he doesn't want him in at the moment, although I think that's subject to change.

"Tuchel has been very adamant that he wants more attackers, he was very annoyed after the Arsenal game and expressed his desire to change his attackers."

How did Ronaldo perform last season?

Despite a treacherous season campaign for the Red Devils, which saw them finish a massive 13 points behind the top four, on a personal level, Ronaldo certainly did himself justice upon his return to Old Trafford.

While it wasn't vintage Ronaldo, he still scored 18 Premier League goals, bettered only by Golden Boot winners Heung-Min Son and Mohamed Salah.

He also shone on the European stage, even though United struggled and were knocked out in the last 16 by Atletico Madrid, with the experienced frontman striking six times in as many Champions League matches.

Overall, he scored 24 goals, which takes his overall tally for United to 142, and further highlights than he's still capable of finding the net on a regular basis in top level football.
