Chelsea also have Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Leandro Trossard ‘on the list’ of targets this summer, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues are currently attempting to finalise a deal for the Seagulls’ left-back Marc Cucurella and could return to the south coast club in order to make a move for his teammate afterwards.

What is the latest news involving Trossard?

Trossard arrived on English shores from Genk back in 2019 via an £18 million switch and has made solid progression year in, year out for an impressive Brighton outfit.

During his three-year stay in the Premier League so far, the creative talent has put up tallies of eight, 10 and 11 goal contributions, and his displays clearly caught the eye of the division’s top teams last time out.

Earlier this summer, Belgian outlet RTBF (via The Sun) claimed that both Manchester United and Newcastle United were eager to prise Trossard away from the Amex Stadium.

And any potential suitor could secure themselves a bargain deal as Trossard only has 12 months remaining on his current contract, leaving Brighton in a precarious position.

A formal offer is yet to materialise for the Belgium international, though, and now it seems Chelsea could be about to enter the race for his signature.

What has Phillips said about Trossard?

Cucurella could be a Chelsea player before the new season gets underway, and Trossard may be the next talented star to depart Graham Potter’s setup at Brighton.

Phillips has informed GiveMeSport that he’s ‘been told’ the capital club have the winger on their radar and that he’d be happy to join them.

He told GMS: “Leandro Trossard as well from Brighton. Obviously, we're negotiating with Brighton right now for Cucurella. So, I've been told that he's a name on the list, and he'd come up.”

Where would Trossard fit in at Chelsea?

Trossard has predominantly featured on the left-wing throughout his senior career, although he is also capable of playing through the middle.

Therefore, his potential arrival at Stamford Bridge is likely to hinge on Timo Werner or Christian Pulisic finding a new club for the upcoming campaign as Thomas Tuchel’s attacking options are already brimming.

Chelsea have already added Raheem Sterling to their ranks this summer, and the former Manchester City star is expected to occupy Trossard’s favoured position.

Yet if wantaway forwards Werner, Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech all depart Chelsea, Trossard could be an extremely good value-for-money replacement.
