UFC newcomer Chris Duncan pulled off one of the craziest comebacks in the promotion’s history last night to earn himself a contract.

Dana White’s Contender Series presents the best unsigned stars in mixed martial arts with the opportunity to earn themselves a UFC deal on any given Tuesday. More often than not we get some fantastic bouts and an evening full of drama but heading into week two, there was a bit more pressure on the shoulders of the 10 fighters on the card than usual.

That’s because last week saw Dana White give out just one contract on the night, noting afterwards that he wasn’t pleased with the action, or lack of, that he saw.

The president even spoke to those competing beforehand to remind them of just how important this bout was going to be for their career.

A lot of exciting developments came from that as the evening drew on and in the main event, we saw arguably the most insane comeback in DWCS history.

Charlie Campbell and Chris Duncan were tasked with trying to close the show in style and boy oh boy did they live up to the hype.

Campbell was rocking and dropping Duncan whenever he went forward and then, in the blink of an eye, Duncan turned the tables on his opponent and put Campbell’s lights out.

It all happened within the first one minute and 43 seconds of the contest, and it was a perfect way to cap off one hell of an event.

The rest of the card

There were five fights on the bill last night and five fighters earned a contract. If that doesn’t tell you it was a success, we’re not so sure what will.

Vinicius Salvador, Francis Marshall, Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Billy Goff will be taking their places on the UFC roster right alongside Chris Duncan, and you could even argue that a few of the lads who lost deserve a crack too.

Dana White was a happy bunny, the fans were satisfied, and the future of the sport continues to look as bright as it has done in a long time.

All in all, a solid night at the office.
