West Ham United’s potential move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr will probably happen ‘late in the window’, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Hammers have been linked with a move for Sarr throughout the summer but appear to be focussing on alternative targets at this moment in time.

What is the latest news involving Sarr?

A report from club insider Claret & Hugh last month claimed that West Ham were interested in signing Sarr and his Watford teammate Emmanuel Dennis following their relegation to the Championship.

The Hornets sporting director Cristiano Giaretta even admitted that the attacking duo ‘would like to leave’ the club, although they have been remaining professional while searching for pastures new.

“They would like to leave and have been looking at potential moves, but they are not causing us any problems,” Giaretta told the Watford Observer. “They are not banging on our door to get away as soon as they can.”

However, formal offers are still to arrive for the talented attackers despite several Premier League clubs being heavily linked with them.

What has Crook said about Sarr?

West Ham have reportedly been unsuccessful with a £30 million offer for Chelsea striker Armando Broja, while they have been able to welcome Gianluca Scamacca to the club from Sassuolo.

Crook believes the capital club’s offer for Broja indicates they have the necessary funds to prise Sarr away from Vicarage Road, yet they could remain patient in their pursuit.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It might come down to the price tag, it’s around £30 million.

“Obviously, they were willing to pay that for Broja, so potentially they have got that cash. I think if that happens, it'll probably be late in the window.”

Would Sarr be a good signing?

Despite being in a side that won just six Premier League games all season, Sarr still registered a respectable five goals and two assists in 22 top-flight fixtures, leading to him being described as "exceptional".

And his underlying numbers were also healthy. As per WhoScored, the creative talent had 1.8 shots, made one key pass and completed 1.5 dribbles per league game, placing him in the top two amongst his teammates for each metric.

At present, Jarrod Bowen is the only natural right-winger in West Ham’s squad, and with European competition gracing the London Stadium once again in 2022/23, that’s something David Moyes may want to address.

Sarr, therefore, would surely be warmly welcomed by everyone associated with West Ham, and he could prove to be another astute acquisition.
