England star Beth Mead was told she “looks knackered” during an interview on ITV’s Lorraine. The 27-year-old appeared on the show just two days after helping the Lionesses to Euro 2022 glory. England defeated Germany 2-1 on Sunday – Lina Magull cancelled out Ella Toone’s opener, before Chloe Kelly scored the winner in extra-time. The historic victory, played out in front of 87,192 fans at Wembley, sparked jubilant celebrations on the pitch and in the stands. From dancing on the table at a press conference to singing Sweet Caroline at a celebratory event in Trafalgar Square, the Lionesses partied hard. According to Lorraine presenter Ranvir Singh, Mead was still showing signs of this when she appeared on the show. “Beth Mead joins me now for her first interview since [the final],” Singh said. "Wow. How are you? I mean, I’m not gonna, you look a bit knackered to be fair.”

Mead, who was named Player of the Tournament after winning the Golden Boot, laughed and replied sarcastically: “Thank you!”

“Your whole body is just gone,” Singh exclaimed, with Mead replying: “It’s relaxed. It’s relaxed now.”

Women’s football fans were left unhappy with the exchange, with content creator Nancy Baker writing: “First thing you say to Beth Mead after she’s bagged top goal scorer of the Euros & brought it home. The cheek of it!”

Another wrote: “That was very rude if you ask me...OMG”, while another posted: “This is the worst thing you can say to someone. Beth most definitely does NOT look knackered, and even if she did, you don't say that! Come on.”

“Wish I looked this good when i’m ‘knackered’ 🙃,” joked someone else.

Singh took to Twitter to clarify her comments, writing: “Agreed ! I meant I knew she felt knackered! I think she has forgiven me ;)”.

It is not the first time a Lioness has been subject to a TV gaffe since winning Euro 2022.

Kelly appeared on Good Morning Britain yesterday and looked unimpressed when presenter Richard Madeley referred to her as “Coco”.

He rounded off the interview with: “Chloe – or ‘Coco’ as I call my daughter Chloe – Coco, thank you very much indeed for coming in.”

Kelly managed a wry smile but social media users were again left confused by the comment.
