Tottenham Hotspur have seen a ‘big shift’ behind the scenes at Hotspur Way during the transfer window regarding how negotiations are carried out, according to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic.

Antonio Conte has strengthened his side significantly this summer but with the window not slamming shut until September 1 there remains plenty of time to strengthen further.

What has Tottenham’s summer looked like?

It has been a transfer window of brutal efficiency for Spurs so far as they prepare for the 2022-23 campaign.

Six new faces were signed by the end of July with Conte making a firm mark on the first-team squad. The likes of Richarlison, Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma were signed for just over £90 million combined while shrewd dealings were done to get Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster on free transfers.

Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet also joined on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona to shore up the defence.

There are reports that a creative midfielder is still desired by the Italian manager. James Maddison of Leicester City and Nicolo Zaniolo have both been linked.

But as things stand, it has been a successful summer transfer window.

What has Eccleshare said on what has gone on behind the scenes?

The Athletic reporter understands that a significant shift in how transfer dealings are carried out has taken place in the white half of north London.

Fabio Paratici joined the fold last summer and has taken further control of proceedings this year, although flexibility has remained in the negotiating process.

Eccleshare told GIVEMESPORT: “I think there's an element of pragmatism to this. Like, with the Djed Spence deal, for instance, the players representative, one of them was someone Daniel Levy has known for a long time. Ditto Steve Gibson, the Middlesbrough chairman. So, in that instance, it makes sense for Daniel Levy to lead the negotiations.

“But Paratici does have a lot of control. That has been a big shift, because obviously, we've become accustomed to Daniel Levy being in charge of that area. But obviously, Paratici was brought in last summer, as essentially technical director although his job title is managing director of football.”

How are Spurs looking ahead of the new season?

Tottenham’s season gets underway against Southampton on Saturday afternoon and supporters will likely be heading into the game filled with confidence.

Conte and Paratici have bolstered the first-team squad impressively, strengthening weak spots such as the midfield and full-back roles while retaining their star men.

Talk of a title charge may be slightly ambitious but there is no doubting that Tottenham are all set to have a very impressive season.
