Aston Villa could sign a ‘game changer’ if they are able to complete a deal for Rangers winger Ryan Kent this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Steven Gerrard has overseen a busy summer at Villa Park but with the transfer still open for another few weeks, there could still be some new arrivals in the West Midlands.

What is the latest Villa transfer news?

This summer has seen five new faces arrive at the club and just shy of £50 million spent on their services.

Diego Carlos and Robin Olson have made the move while Philippe Coutinho has made his loan move from Barcelona permanent.

Boubacar Kamara was signed on a free transfer after leaving Marseille at the end of last season while left-back Ludwiq Augustinsson has joined on loan from Sevilla.

But with plenty of time remaining this summer, could Gerrard add his former Rangers winger Kent to his ranks?

The 25-year-old was linked with a move back in January following Gerrard’s move to Villa Park and they remain the odds-on favourites to sign him this summer.

What has O’Rourke said about a potential move for Kent?

O’Rourke believes that Kent could be a potentially game-changing signing for Aston Villa if they were to land his services this summer.

The journalist says the player has the necessary skills to really excite the crowd and is capable of scoring plenty of goals.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think we saw the best of Ryan Kent under Steven Gerrard and I'm sure Gerrard would be confident that he would get the best out of Kent as well if he was able to bring them to Aston Villa.

“He's a potential game changer, Ryan Kent, on his day, a really skilful, tricky winger who can score goals, create goals as well. So I'm sure it'd be a signing that would excite the fans as well with this style of play. I think it could be a win-win situation.”

Would Kent be a good signing for Villa?

With reports emerging that Bertrand Traore has been bumped down to the under-23’s, it appears the club may well be in need of a new winger soon.

Kent is about to enter the final year of his contract at Ibrox so there is potential for Villa to bag themselves a bargain this summer. He also currently earns just £18,000 per week in Glasgow so it is not a move that would break the bank.

Since joining Rangers from Liverpool, Kent has scored 30 goals (34 in his career) in 175 appearances and contributed 49 assists as well, helping the club to the Scottish Premiership and a Scottish Cup triumph.
