Liverpool could sign a player who ‘would fit perfectly’ into their system if they pursue Moussa Diaby, according to journalist Christian Falk.

The Red have been linked to the Bayer Leverkusen winger in the past, although it seems as though he is set to stay put at the BayArena this summer.

What is the latest news involving Diaby?

Italian outlet CalcioMercato has previously credited Liverpool with an interest in Diaby, with Spanish sources claiming he was being lined up as a possible Mohamed Salah replacement.

However, Salah eventually put pen to paper on fresh terms at Anfield, ending any speculation over his future and seemingly halting the Anfield outfit’s pursuit of Diaby at least temporarily.

The France international then landed on Newcastle United’s radar as the newly-rich side look to bolster their options in the final third of the pitch.

A report in The Telegraph, though, revealed that Leverkusen’s £60 million asking price had deterred the Magpies, leading to them focussing their attention on alternative targets.

Another campaign in the Bundesliga beckons for Diaby then, but the clamour for his signature will surely rear its head once again in 12 months’ time.

What has Falk said about Diaby?

Falk has informed GiveMeSport that he ‘always wondered’ why Liverpool didn’t sign Diaby before as he has the attributes required to thrive under Jurgen Klopp.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “I think he's perfect for the Premier League.

“I always wondered why Liverpool didn't buy him before, he would fit perfectly in this system, and I think we will see him there. But at the moment, it doesn't look like it will be this summer.”

Would Diaby be a good signing for Liverpool?

Liverpool have streamlined their attacking option this summer, offloading Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino and replacing them with Darwin Nunez.

Fellow new arrival Fabio Carvalho can also play across the frontline, but Diaby would have been a welcomed addition given his talent and versatility.

Last term, the skilful attacker registered 17 goals and 14 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions, firing Leverkusen to a third-place finish in the German top-flight.

If he could replicate that sort of form in a Liverpool shirt, then he could establish himself as Salah’s natural heir when the Egyptian’s powers eventually begin to wane.
