Football Manager 2023 is set to come out later this year.

The game has followed an annual release schedule for years and there are no indications that will change his year.

As a result, we expect FM23 to release in November, with the beta coming out two weeks prior.

We’ve taken a look at a variety of save ideas ahead of the release later this year, and we’re now taking a look at the Championship.

It is arguably one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and it’s always a good challenge, to need to win promotion to the Premier League, and then to stay up.

Let’s take a look at five of the best Championship clubs to manage on FM23.

Watford

It’s always a poisoned chalice to be Watford manager. They’re famously sack-happy and they could get rid of you if you don’t hit the ground running. Plus, they’re always officially licenced in FM.

They’ve also undergone something of a rebuild, selling the likes of Cucho Hernandez, Moussa Sissoko and Kiko Femenia and bringing in players like Mario Gaspar and Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

Can you win promotion back to the Premier League and keep them there?

Sunderland

They’re back in the second-tier after winning the play-offs and the Black Cats could be something of a surprise package this season.

They have sprinkled some quality into their team, bringing in youngsters like Daniel Ballard, Jack Clarke and Aji Alese from Arsenal, Tottenham, and West Ham respectively.

The first test will be to ensure that Sunderland can stay competitive in the Championship, before attempting to get them into the top-flight.

This is also a nice Sleeping Giant save, too, so consider that as well.

Luton Town

Luton surprised pretty much everyone last season when they managed to secure a spot in the play-offs.

They ended the season in sixth and were ultimately beaten by Huddersfield Town over two legs, but they have recruited smartly this summer and look poised for another promotion push.

The Hatters have even spent just under £2m on a brand new striker in Carlton Morris, who has arrived from Barnsley. Can you take them one step further and get them into the Premier League for the first time ever?

Birmingham City

Now, this one is going to be tough.

Birmingham only won 11 games last season and finished 20th, but they are nearing a takeover.

They have some serious financial woes at the moment and they have been restricted to free transfers and loans in the market.

Staying up would be a genuine achievement.

Millwall

It seems like Millwall are actually set for a promotion push this time.

They have flirted with it for some time, including last season, though they faded and finished ninth. This summer has seen them invest though, paying over £2m to sign Zian Flemming from Fortuna Sittard, for example.

And they also won their first game of the season. Can you take them into the Premier League and finally deliver on the promise the club has long since showed?
