Former two-weight UFC champion Henry Cejudo has explained the delay in Jon Jones returning to the Octagon.

It’s been a long time since we saw Jon Jones compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and while some are okay with him still being on the shelf, others are eager to see him get back in the mix - especially if it includes him finally making the jump up to heavyweight.

The 205-pound GOAT is the definition of an enigma but from everything we’ve heard, an announcement regarding his comeback could, and perhaps should, be imminent.

One man who knows where Jon’s head is at better than most is none other than champion-turned-coach Henry Cejudo. ‘Triple C’ has done some training with Jones in preparation for his heavyweight switch but thus far, there’s still been no announcement from the UFC.

According to Cejudo, Stipe Miocic may be to blame for that.

“Jon is ready, Jon has that fire that he had once again. It’s really come down to Stipe Miocic. If he’s gonna continue to keep fighting fires, or fight. I commend him for doing things like that but this is also the fight game and people do want the fight. If Stipe is willing to say hey man, this is the month I want to get going, then Jon will oblige and sign even though Jon is the A-side.

“Anything less than Jon Jones fighting for a belt is a slap in the face. Him fighting Curtis Blaydes or anyone along the line is a slap in the face to Jon Jones. Hate him or love him, he is the greatest of all time.”

When did Jones last fight?

Back at UFC 247 in February 2020, Jon Jones just about managed to edge past Dominick Reyes and retain his UFC light heavyweight championship.

It’s still considered to be a controversial decision to this day but even with that being the case, there’s still a great level of anticipation behind Jones’ comeback.

The 35-year-old has spent the last two years building his body to the point where he’s ready to fully commit to this weight class as he pursues a second world title.
