Chelsea have an interest in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues recently missed out on Raphinha to Barcelona, and it appears that Zaha could be an alternative to the Brazilian.

What is the latest news involving Zaha?

French outlet Media Foot recently reported that signing Zaha is now one of Chelsea's priorities before the transfer window closes.

AS Roma have also been mentioned as a suitor for the 29-year-old winger, with manager Jose Mourinho said to be "very interested" in him.

Last season was another good one for Zaha as he helped Patrick Vieira's side to a 12th-placed finish in the Premier League.

The £130,000-a-week Ivorian managed to reach double figures for goals, scoring 14 times in 33 outings.

What has Phillips said about Zaha and Chelsea?

Phillips has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea still have Zaha on their radar after the club's former regime, which included ex-director Marina Granovskaia, initially registered an interest in him.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "Wilfried Zaha, I've been told there's still interest there. Obviously that's historical interest from Chelsea's side before the new owners. Something could be done there at the end of the window with Zaha, one year left on his contract, and Chelsea have always admired him.

"And I think Tuchel has the same way of thinking there. So he wouldn't be an expensive signing to do, and I think he would be the kind of player that Tuchel would really like."

Do Chelsea need Zaha?

Chelsea could be about to lose Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, who are being linked with moves to RB Leipzig and Manchester United respectively.

Considering that, the west London club may very well need to sign a new wide man like Zaha this summer.

In terms of what he would bring to Stamford Bridge, as highlighted earlier, the Ivory Coast international is a goal threat. He is also, of course, a very good dribbler, averaging 2.3 dribbles per game in the English top flight last season - only three players made more (via WhoScored).

It is no wonder Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed him as a "terrific player" a couple of years ago.

Ultimately, if Chelsea want to sign a new winger before the transfer window slams shut, then Zaha is a name that is certainly worth considering. And with less than a year remaining on his current contract, he could be available for a good price.
