Phoenix Suns bring back former player

Ish Wainright

News has revealed that the Phoenix Suns and forward Ish Wainright have reached an agreement on a two-way contract.

Alongside guard Duane Washington Jr., Wainright makes a second visit to the Suns as part of a two-way deal. Wainright would need to sign a conventional contract if he wanted to play for Phoenix the following season because league regulations only allow players to sign two-way contracts with the same team twice.

Wainright had a 2.4 point and 1.2 rebound average in 47 games as a rookie. Wainright is an important player during general manager James Jones’ tenure as he represents Phoenix’s first two-way contract success.

Below is everything we know about the Phoenix Suns signing Ish Wainright

Phoenix Suns bring back Ish Wainright

Ish Wainright will sign a two-way contract with the Phoenix Suns, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Charania said: “Free agent Ish Wainright has agreed to a two-way NBA contract to return to the Phoenix Suns, his agents Jim Tanner and Deirunas Visockas of Tandem told @TheAthletic @Stadium.”

During his 45 games for the Suns last season, the 27-year-old averaged 2.4 points and 1.2 rebounds. One of the NBA’s top teams at the moment, the Suns concluded the regular season as the top seed in the Western Conference.

They entered the 2022 NBA Playoffs as the #1 seed because they had the greatest record in the NBA. They grabbed a 2-0 series lead against the Dallas Mavericks in the second round after defeating the New Orleans Pelicans in six games in the first round. The Suns were defeated in a Game 7 on their home court in Arizona by Luka Doncic and the Mavericks, who finished the game 4-1 overall.

The Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors would see the Mavs fall in five games. The Suns broke a ten-year postseason drought in 2021, and Chris Paul’s contributions enabled them to advance to the NBA Finals.

They ultimately fell to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in six games, and they also lost a 2-0 series lead. Antetokounmpo and the Bucks battled back to win four straight games and win the 2021 NBA Championship after falling behind 2-0.
