Montrezl Harrell, who was once a powerful reserve player for the Los Angeles Clippers early in his career, has moved about quite a bit since leaving the Clippers in 2020.

In the significant 2021 offseason trade that brought All-Star Russell Westbrook to Los Angeles, Harrell was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Washington Wizards after playing with them for the 2020–21 season.

The Washington Wizards traded the seasoned big man to the Charlotte Hornets for the 2021–22 season.

Harrell to the Heat?

No teams have expressed a lot of interest in signing Montrezl Harrell this offseason, who is now an unrestricted free agent. Maybe his asking price was originally a little bit too high for many teams to be willing to take a chance on him, but as a result of Harrell getting charged with trafficking marijuana this offseason, some teams have now entirely backed off.

Although his hearing was originally scheduled for July 13, it was postponed to August 10. This suggests that teams across the league who still need frontcourt depth would wait to see what happens with Harrell in court before considering chasing him.

At this time in the summer, very few teams in the NBA are actively seeking to sign another centre, and even fewer still have guaranteed roster spaces available, but FadeawayWorld revealed earlier this month that the Heat may be interested in signing Montrezl Harrell.

The Heat now has 12 guaranteed contracts for the 2022–2023 season, in addition to Haywood Highsmith's deal, which is only partially guaranteed. Orlando Robinson, Jamal Cain, and Jamaree Bouyea have all signed non-guaranteed training camp contracts with Miami, while the team has also signed two-way contracts with Darius Days and Marcus Garrett.

The Heat's frontcourt currently consists of Bam Adebayo, Dewayne Dedmon, and Omer Yurtseven, but P.J. Tucker's departure has left a gap in their depth at the power forward position.

Montrezl Harrell, who can play either centre or power forward, maybe a very intriguing addition for the Miami Heat to consider before training camp, especially if he is prepared to accept a minimum-like contract.

Harrell played in 46 games for the Wizards and 26 games for the Hornets last season, appearing in 46 games overall. He averaged 13.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 64.5% shooting from the field.

Harrell is another good rebounding option the team may sign in addition to Adebayo. His aggressiveness would fit the Heat's defensive style of play. This team could certainly do better when it comes to rebounding since they were 22nd in the NBA in that department last season.

Should his off-the-court issue be rectified, Harrell could be a very beneficial acquisition for this team that is competing towards the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Miami still has several roster spaces to play around with this offseason.
