Arsenal transfer target Youri Tielemans is greatly admired among the hierarchy at the Emirates this summer, according to Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor.

Mikel Arteta has strengthened his side ahead of the 2022-23 season but there could still be more business to be done in north London ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news on Tielemans?

The 52 cap Belgium international has been linked with Arsenal for what feels like forever now and he continues to be monitored at the Emirates.

Reports at the start of the summer emerged detailing that Leicester could be willing to accept as little as £25 million for Tielemans this summer as the 25-year-old enters the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium.

The Sun reported in July that Arsenal were considering an opening bid of around £30 million, however. As per the Guardian, Leicester are now expecting the north Londoners to make their opening bid any day now as well.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers recently expressed that the club will not be exploited this summer, saying: “There is, obviously, within the club a financial situation which isn’t ideal in terms of wanting to do business.

"It doesn’t mean we will be exploited and we don’t want to be losing our best players.”

James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Wesley Fofana have all also been linked with moves away this summer, while Kasper Schmeichel’s move to Nice was confirmed this week.

What has Taylor said on the Tieleman’s pursuit?

Taylor understands that the midfielder is very highly regarded among the powers that be at Arsenal this summer.

But the reporter also believes that the fact the Gunners are yet to make their move for the player is also significant given their past business.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “He's a player that they admire, and he's widely admired by the Arsenal hierarchy as well. But he's not, at the moment, a definite to join Arsenal, whereas we've seen earlier in the window that clear Arsenal targets – [Gabriel] Jesus, [Oleksandr] Zinchenko, [Fabio] Vieira - they moved straight for them. They entered negotiations whereas there's been no offer so far for Tielemans.”

Will Arsenal sign Tielemans this summer?

Given the comments from Rodgers, there is clearly a feeling at Leicester that rival clubs are preying on their financial situation this summer.

But from an Arsenal perspective, it is more likely a case of them needing to move on more big earners first before bringing in another, with Tielemans currently earning £120,000 per week with Leicester.

Bernd Leno has recently joined Fulham but with the likes of Pablo Mari and Hector Bellerin still hanging around, the wage bill remains a hefty one.
