Micah Richards and Alan Shearer both played with some world-class players during their time as professional footballers.

Richards played with some brilliant players during his time at Manchester City.

While Shearer lined up alongside countless legendary names during his Premier League career which saw him turn out for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.

But who were the best players they played alongside?

Richards and Shearer both named the best XI of players they played alongside at club level in 2021 on the Match of the Day top 10 podcast.

Richards named an incredibly strong side, with the centre midfield position perhaps his strongest area on the pitch.

The Englishman picked Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira as the two centre midfielders in his side. He played with both players while at City.

It was going to be almost impossible for Shearer to name a better centre-midfield partnership than that.

And, when Shearer did give select his midfield, Richards erupted with laughter knowing that they couldn't compete with his.

Richards started: “My midfield destroys his already. I can see it in his eyes. He's got no chance.”

He then selects Toure and Vieira. Shearer is then asked to name his midfield by Gary Lineker.

“I’ve gone for Rob Lee and Tim Sherwood,” Shearer responds.

Richards immediately bursts out laughing and Shearer took offence.

“That’s terrible! 20 odd caps for England. That’s disgraceful behaviour. That’s disgraceful. I hope he’s listening to this,” Shearer says.

Richards, struggling to contain himself, musters: “How dare you come with that midfield!”

Lee and Sherwood were both decent players but even they would admit they weren't quite as good as Toure and Vieira.

Shearer's team features multiple Premier League legends including Stuart Pearce, Matt Le Tissier, Peter Beardsley and Les Ferdinand.

But, on paper, it wouldn't struggle against Richards' side, which is extremely strong.
