Arsenal could make a late surge to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Gunners have been linked with the Belgium international throughout the summer and Jones reckons there's a "strong possibility" the north Londoners make one final push late in the window.

What's the latest news involving Tielemans?

With Tielemans recently entering the final 12 months of his Foxes contract, his future has been a major topic since the market opened for business.

Arsenal have always been the frontrunners for his signature, although they're still yet to meet Leicester's £40m asking price for the midfielder.

As a result, Tielemans has featured heavily in pre-season and is in line to start the campaign at the King Power Stadium, although he could still leave after that with the window closing on 1 September.

Brendan Rodgers recently said that he wants Tielemans' future resolved as quickly as possible, although Jones reckons that Arsenal could wait until later this month before launching a bid.

What did Jones say about Tielemans?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Arsenal's priority has been to get a few fringe players out of the squad to open up space and room on the wage bill and then I think they will try and sign another midfielder.

"I would be surprised if it was James Maddison, but there's a strong possibility they might make a late push for Tielemans."

Do Arsenal need Tielemans?

It's been an incredibly productive window for Arteta, who's managed to bring in a top quality left back that can also play in midfield in Oleksandr Zinchenko, while he addressed Arsenal's need for a striker with the addition of Gabriel Jesus.

Youngster Fabio Vieira, who might have missed the whole of pre-season through injury, has also arrived and is expected to provide cover and competition for Martin Odegaard in the no.10 role.

Backup goalkeeper Matt Turner and young Brazilian Marquinhos are the club's two other summer additions, which represents an impressive off-season period for Arsenal.

But they're still lacking quality in the middle of the park, which is where Tielemans could come into play. He possesses an abundance of ability in the central areas having scored 24 goals and laid on 24 assists during his time in English football.

Tielemans also has an eye for a pass, averaging 1.2 key passes per game, which was the third best in the Leicester squad and a figure that no Arsenal midfielder could outdo, while he averaged more than 50 passes every outing, with his success rate a notable 83.5 per cent.
