Conor McGregor is putting the UFC on the back burner as he is set to make his Hollywood debut after landing a role in the remake of Road House, an 80s action film.

The remake that is to be done by Prime Video will also include Jake Gyllenhaal, the protagonist from 2001 hit film, Donnie Darko.

Road House originally starred Patrick Swayze and tells us the story of a former UFC fighter (Gyllenhaal’s character) who becomes a bouncer in Florida after retiring from the sporting scene.

Given the links to the UFC in the film, it’s no surprise to see McGregor make his debut in a title like this, it’ll certainly help him settle into his first acting role.

As of yet, we don’t know what role he’ll play in the film, but given it’s set in 1989, he’s unlikely to be playing himself with sources reporting that he will be playing an original character.

MailOnline were told by a spokesperson for McGregor that: “Conor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of Road House, a beloved classic. 

“While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming.”

Expectedly, McGregor will have to take a large sabbatical from the combat sports scene as any injury or visible damage will ruin the continuity of the film and ruin all the hard work of 100s of people, not only his own.

Off the back of the news that he will be ditching the Octagon for Hollywood, he took to Twitter to say: “MMA, I’ll never forget you! Easy work.”

That certainly sounds like he is on his way out of the UFC given his new venture. The Irishman has been absent from the Octagon for over a year now, with a return edging closer.

He broke his leg in defeat to Dustin Poirier in his last fight, making it three losses from his last four fights, however, he appears to be ditching the training he’s been doing to jump on the film set.

It will undoubtedly be a huge loss for the sport, with McGregor being one of the biggest names and an incredible entertainer. It’s a shame to see him leave after a string of poor results rather than go out on top like he deserves.
