After dominating the UFC light heavyweight division, Jon Jones is edging closer to making his heavyweight debut.

Jones, whose UFC record stands at 26-1-0, vacated the light heavyweight title almost three years ago following his victory over Dominick Reyes.

His reason being that he wanted to make the step up in weight to heavyweight. However, he is yet to make that leap and hasn’t fought since beating Reyes.

In his time in the light heavyweight division, Jones has widely been regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. After a long break, ‘Bones’ now looks ready to prove this at a heavier weight.

Footage on Reddit has shown Jones working on the pads in training and looking heavier - and meaner - than ever before.

The 35-year-old also posted the video on his Instagram, with the caption: “Right now I’m exactly where I need to be, I’m excited to see myself in a few months when things actually start to ramp up. Feeling sharp across the board.”

It is hard to argue with Jones when you watch the footage. He has bulked up massively and looks a real force working the pads at his new weight.

Jones’ first heavyweight opponent is yet to be confirmed, but the American himself has been vocal about wanting to fight Stipe Miocic; a fight Dana White is also keen to see.

Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, White said: “Jon Jones is ready to go, we’re just waiting for an opponent. It’s either going to be Francis [Ngannou] depending on how long his knee is going to take to recover or Stipe Miocic… It’s very interesting because I’m a huge believer in ring rust. But for all the negative things you could say about Jon Jones and his personal life and things that have happened, he’s the best. He’s definitely the best of all time.”

With White claiming Jones is the best of all time, there is pressure on the American to deliver once he steps into the cage as a heavyweight.

With his much anticipated heavyweight debut expected to come this year, as well as a lengthy absence from the Octagon, will Jones be able to dominate his new division?
