Few sights are more frustrating in football than watching your team earn a corner only to fail to beat the first defender with a ball into the box.

Former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas was responsible for one of the most infamous examples of this cardinal sin.

With his Reds side chasing a result against Chelsea to save their 2013/14 Premier League title challenge after Steven Gerrard’s slip gifted a goal to Demba Ba, the timing of Aspas' truly terrible corner-kick couldn't have been any worse.

Somehow managing to play the ball directly to Chelsea midfielder Willian on the edge of the Blues' penalty area, Aspas had thrown away a promising attacking situation in spectacular fashion.

The set-piece was so bad that the Spaniard is still reminded of it frequently some eight years later.

However, one man who can top Aspas' dismal effort is Said Benrahma.

While representing Brentford back in 2018, the now-West Ham winger produced one of the worst corners ever seen on a professional pitch.

In a catastrophic piece of decision-making, Benrahma played the ball straight to Derby loanee Mason Mount from the set-piece - and the future England international wasted no time in launching a ruthless counter-attack.

He soon laid off the ball to Harry Wilson, who combined delightfully with midfielder Craig Bryson, before capping the move off himself with an assured fashion.

The time between Benrahma taking the Brentford corner and the ball ending up in the back of the Bees' net was a mere 12 seconds.

All involved with the west London outfit were simply shell-shocked at what had just happened to them.

A clip of the doomed corner, cheekily captioned: 'How to take a corner by Brentford Football Club' quickly went viral - and there wasn't a great deal of sympathy on show for Benrahma in the comments section.

"Straight from the training ground, they’ve been working on that all week," joked one reply.

"That's the worst corner I've seen since I found a mouldy old Müller in the fridge," exclaimed another.

"Who was he even trying to pass to?" asked a third comment.

'My son's under 10s are better at corners than that," declared a final response.

Brentford went on to lose the match 3-1, although Benrahma did provide a fine assist from a separate corner for Henrik Dalsgaard's consolation.

Unfortunately for the Algerian international, there's only one corner that fans were talking about as they left Pride Park that afternoon.
