Roman Reigns vs The Rock: Paul Heyman hypes possible clash for WrestleMania 39

  • Ash Rose

It’s a match that needs very little build-up, but Paul Heyman has spoken about the possibility of Roman Reigns taking on The Rock and added his usual hyperbole.

It’s an open secret that WWE are looking to build next year’s WrestleMania around a massive main event that would see current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns take on The Rock – in what would possibly be the People’s Champ’s final WWE match.

Given that WrestleMania 39 already has a Hollywood theme and will emanate from Los Angeles, it’s the perfect setting for Rock to make his in-ring return and combine the match with a Hall of Fame induction.

Speaking on the MackMania podcast, Roman’s chief counsel Paul Heyman spoke about a possibility of a match, stating that not only would Reigns be happy to face The Rock, but he’d put the title on the line, too.

“I mean, listen, if Dwayne Johnson wants the publicity to lose to Roman Reigns, we’ll give him a title match. He doesn’t even have to wait in line or win a battle Royal or whatever, there’s box office there. I’m impressed with what Dwayne Johnson has done outside of WWE and I would counsel Roman Reigns that we could make a special provision to defend the title and smash Dwayne Johnson. Dwayne Johnson wants to take that beating, he is more than welcome to step up to The Tribal Chief, as long as he understands that when the match is over, he’s going to be like everyone else, and that he’s going to acknowledge The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.”

However, this isn’t a classic Heyman spoiler. More some first-class promoting pageantry from the 56-year-old, who went on to say that until a contract is signed then it’s still nothing more than a dream match.

“It’s masturbatory fantasies until there’s a piece of paper in front of us with Dwayne Johnson’s signature on. Then I know it’s real. And until then it’s just fantasy.”

Roman will next put his titles on the line at next month’s Clash at the Castle. The Tribal Chief is set to headline the UK’s biggest show for thirty years when he defends his championship against the Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre.
