Football Manager 2023 is coming soon.

The game has not yet been officially announced but every other release in the franchise has come out in November, and we expect the same for FM23.

The beta will come out two weeks prior, as is tradition, and so we’ve taken a look at some of the best international saves you can take on.

That may seem a little counterintuitive for FM, which is a game that thrives when it comes to club management, of course.

But international management can be a quicker, stripped-back save, as you go through qualifying for major tournaments, friendlies, and the likes of the World Cup, the European Championship, and the African Cup of Nations.

Here’s five of the best international saves you can take on when FM23 comes out.

England

Yep. Obviously!

The Lionesses may have brought football home earlier this week, beating Germany in an amazing European Championship final, but the wait for a major men’s trophy goes on.

No silverware has been won since 1966 but the Three Lions are getting closer and closer, reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the final of the 2020 Euros.

Can you end 56 years of hurt?

Northern Ireland

This is a good one.

They’re a UK country and are a real challenge compared to England.

Northern Ireland haven’t reached a World Cup since 1986, when they were knocked out in the group stages after failing to win a game, and have only ever played once in the Euros, in 2016.

Obviously, they have never won an international trophy. Can you change that?

Mexico

Hirving Lozano

Mexico have a tournament curse that goes back many years.

They continually reach the World Cup and then get to the Round of 16, only to get knocked out. It has happened at every tournament since 1994.

They will also be hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and the USA, so get automatic entry. Add in their excellent record in the Gold Cup, which they have won 11 times, and you’ve got a really interesting save.

San Marino

This one is for the masochists.

San Marino are the worst international team in the world. Since making their competitive debut, they have played in every qualification phase for the World Cup and the Euros. They have never won a game.

Not only is your challenge to end that run, but you need to qualify for one of the tournaments. Their only win to date came against Liechtenstein, when they won 1-0 in a friendly back in 2004.

Good luck!

Win Africa’s first World Cup.

It’s that simple.

Senegal are a team with immense history and some genuinely excellent players, not least the world-class Liverpool ace Sadio Mane.

Build around him and attempt to win the biggest trophy in the game, while also winning the AFCON.

This one should be a lot of fun.
