Jorge Masvidal has said that he wouldn’t be surprised to see former rival Nate Diaz defeat Khamzat Chimaev.

On September 10, Nate Diaz will compete in what will almost certainly be his final UFC fight when he meets Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of UFC 279. The Stockton king has provided us with many memorable moments over the years but as a result of ongoing issues with the promotion and his desire to test the waters of free agency, there’s a good chance he’ll be making his last ever walk to the Octagon next month.

His opponent, Khamzat Chimaev, is one of the fastest-rising stars in mixed martial arts. The man known as ‘Borz’ has been able to tear through everyone the UFC has put in front of him and even though Gilbert Burns put up a great effort, Chimaev was still able to secure the win.

In the eyes of many critics, this contest is considered to be something of a mismatch. For Masvidal, though, he wouldn’t be at all shocked to see Diaz pull off the upset.

“They probably wanted to pair Diaz with someone who stylistically is not the best. When I think of Khamzat, they gave him a boring ass wrestler that’s probably just gonna try to hug his legs and sniff his crotch. I think Khamzat probably wins but, I could see Nate putting him away in round four or five because Khamzat doesn’t have that gas tank, doesn’t have that experience, and I think he gets too in the moment where he’s wasting energy doing stupid s***.

“Nate is gonna conserve all that energy and get in his face when it counts. Khamzat should win, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nate stops his ass.”

When Nate met Jorge

Back at UFC 244 in November 2019, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal battled it out to determine the inaugural BMF champion.

The fight went down at Madison Square Garden and while it did end in a disappointing way due to a cut sustained by Diaz, the three rounds we did get to see showcased why these two men are so loved within the MMA community.
