Which players have scored the most Premier League goals in the 21st century?

Over the past 20 or so years, us Premier League addicts have seen vast amounts of attacking talent pass through England's top-flight.

But who, among all of them, were truly the most relentless finishers we've seen to date?

The candidates

Well, where to start? Given we're only considering goals that were scored after the turn of the millennia, players like Alan Shearer - who scored most of his goals prior to 2000 - will most likely be hampered in his overall finishing position, despite being the league's all time top scorer.

Thierry Henry, who fans recently voted the greatest player to ever do it on UK shores, is an obvious candidate you would expect to be right up there.

Likewise, Didier Drogba, who is renowned as one of the most fearsome forwards of his era.

Wayne Rooney remains to this day England and Manchester United's highest scorer ever, so we'd go as far as to suggest that Wazza is an absolute banker.

Meanwhile more recently, the sheer consistency from Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah will surely be enough to lift them into contention against the old guard.

So, Liverpool's Salah sneaks into the top 10 despite having played far fewer matches than anyone else in the ranking.

Henry comes closest to the Egyptian in terms of the number of games played with his tally of 241, which makes the fact the Arsenal icon ranks fourth overall with 170 strikes even more impressive.

Lukaku, Vardy and Defoe might have caught a few people out. In the case of Defoe, it was sheer longevity that got the Englishman in more than anything.

Whereas the fact Vardy didn't even make his Premier League debut until the age of 27, after spending several years operating within non-league football, just adds to his already monumental underdog story.

And of course, we can't go any further without discussing the pole sitter...

Rooney is the only Premier League player to date to have summitted the 200 goal mark since 2000.

Honestly, to do that in the world's hardest league just shows what a magnificent player he was, especially considering how selfless he was in terms of creating for others too.

Steven Gerrard once branded Rooney the best he ever played with alongside Luis Suarez and, when you look at the numbers, it's easy to see why.
